Conversation from sitting in the 2-door.

Friend: "Dude...you NEED this. It's you."

Me looking in back seat: "I don't think a crash pad would fit back there."

Friend slaps the roof.

Me: "Uhhhh...." imagining rope everywhere to tie it down

Sits in Unlimited Rubicon.

Friend: "This. This is nice."

Me: "So here's the plan. You help me find a higher paying job. Then go on test drives with me for an Unlimited. Then I buy a crash pad."

Friend: "Or you can buy a crash pad."

Me: "Nope. That's the most direct route to a crash pad right now."

Also helped some woman convince her husband and two daughters that getting a MT Wrangler was a great idea. She was all for it as a third vehicle (seemed like she wanted it as her first though haha).

That's fantastic, with the rear seat out you probably could fit a crash pad back there though. Albeit with not much else, also a MT is the only way to go for a Jeep - both my TJ and now the JK had one and I wouldn't have it any other way.

I hope I can afford a JK Unlimited soon...but I've only had my FoST for about 19 months now haha.

Need room for two crash pads if anything so Unlimited it is!

Unlimited is definitely the right choice then! And I know the feeling, I've only had the Jeep since September and already started looking for another vehicle for the fleet lol

How is the Jeep, though? I'm more partial to the hard top because of the noise issue with the soft. Test drove a soft top Unlimited but it wasn't highway speed (got up to 40 or so on the short run) and I can't recall the noise off the top of my head as it was last year.

Absolutely love it, not the greatest thing to drive on roads, but it's off road capability far outweighs the negatives. Also the premium soft top is whisper quiet, seriously quieter than the hard top on my old TJ. And it's held up just find to freezing rain, snow, and cold, so no real need for a hard top in my mind.

Hmm...come to think of it the soft top test drive was in a driving rain haha.

How often do you go off road? I'm around Boston and can't think of many opportunities for me to do anything legitimate but with my buddy and I expanding into the outdoors for our climbing (and me not wanting to waste capabilities of a vehicle) it would be done eventually.

On road would be a concern then. How's it drive? I would do some more serious test drives before actually getting one but I'm enjoying our chat haha

Minus the manual, it's what my wife wants for her next vehicle. 4 door unlimited. She doesn't do well with a manual, but she loves her jeeps

My gf loves boxy vehicles (she started looking up more the other night after watching over two hours of Top Gear with me) and has for as long as I've known her. She has endorsed my looking at these and other trucks as she feels it would make me happy...and her boss has a Rubicon so she's gone on some drives with him and knows the good and bad better than I do!

Maybe next year...or with a new job haha.

"Boxy" vehicles my gf likes:

G-wagon

VW Thing

VW GTI MK2

1970's Land Cruiser

Defender

Then she randomly found the VW 1500 the other night and wants that.

Almost guaranteed you'll want the soft top, and storing a hard top is a PITA. And I go at least 2 times a year to a sanctioned event and on my own probably once a month if I'm lucky. But on road it's not terrible bad but it's gonna be like a complete boat compared to your FoST. However compared to a normal SUV it's about on par with that. Also a non-Rubicon model will have stiffer shocks than the rubi.

My hesitation with the hard top was storage...I kept trying to figure it out but wasn't sure how often the whole thing would be off anyways. The FoST is the smallest thing I've driven having learned on a Suburban and F-150 with my longest tenured vehicle being that F-150. I love how nimble the FoST is but I think it also provokes a little more hostility from me because I can blast by people if needed. I'm going to be keeping my eyes on the JK market this year, for sure.

unless you get a garage roof hoist there's no good place to put it, and it also weighs about 125lbs. But compared to an F150 and a suburban the JK would ride just fine, and the 4dr is much less tail happy and likely to spin out when really slick out.

Yeah, I'm renting now so no place to put anything for a good few years.

I'm getting giddy thinking about the possibilities haha. My browser history is chock full of JK Unlimiteds today (as opposed too...well, never really).

Thanks for the chat today. It's fun to hear from owners. Where do you go with yours when you hit the trails?

Soft top it is! haha and no problem, lemme know if you come up with any other questions. And http://jeepjamboreeusa.com/event-detail/1… this is where I went in October. Planning on another one soon.

Just be prepared for the modification bug. J- just E- empty E- every P- pocket is no exaggeration. You will want it to look like every day lol

Looks fun...and the mod bug will hit but I can keep that in check. That one you attached is a little much haha. I'd keep it simple, you know?
